Company History
Chris started tinkering on bicycles in the 1970's.
His first custom bike projects were custom banana seat choppers made by cutting fork blades off of old junked 10 speeds and force fitting them onto existing forks. The next phase came in the Pre-BMX times--adding knobby tires and MX style seats to Stingray-era bikes. Then the BMX revolution hit with Tuff Wheel II mags, UNI seats, Snake Belly tires and California Lite pads. At this phase the modifications stopped as he became more focused on mechanics and maintenance. By the time free style, flat land riding and pegs hit the scene, Chris had decided to take a detour and work on the restoration of old cars. A few engineering degrees and some years later, he's come back and rekindled his passion for designing and now building bicycles.
Melissa's first two wheeler was this blue banana seat cruiser that Grandpa bought. (Note: plenty of room to grow into it! Not exactly a custom fit...)
Now she's using her degrees in engineering and grad school experience in postural mechanics to fit bicycles to people.
Now together they are Stewie Bicycles!
